Simon Grover, Green candidate for the St Albans Central division, commented: "For thirty years the Green Party has been ahead of the curve, leading the way with policies to address climate change, to improve democracy and accountability, and to develop the local economies of the future. In this time of crises - social, economic and environmental - Hertfordshire needs the Green Party more than ever."
This election campaign caps four years of extraordinary growth for St Albans District Green Party. Local membership has tripled since 2005.
Simon said: "This is testament to a real mood for change and a desire for people to become reconnected with grass-roots politics. Many have lost faith in the 'business as usual' policies of the three grey parties. It is clear that people's real needs and concerns with respect to the environment, transport, housing and economics are not being addressed. The Green Party is determined to change politics and introduce fresh ideas to meet the urgent challenges the people of Hertfordshire face."
In stark contrast to the 2005 County Council election when there were just two Green Party candidates standing in St Albans District, there are now ten - five women and five men. All voters in the area will have the opportunity to register their support for the Green Party's alternative vision when they enter the polling booth on the 4th of June.
