Our Previous Results

We want to give every voter in the district a chance to vote Green at every election, to elect Green representatives, and send a message that Green issues matter to them.

  • In 2005, tens of thousands of people in Hertfordshire voted Green in the County Council elections - 3,378 of them in the St Albans area, where Green candidates won up to 9% of the vote.
  • In 2006 for the first time ever Greens stood in every ward in the St Albans District Council elections, polling up to 14% and beating Labour to third place in three wards.
  • In 2007 the Green vote in our target ward increased by 58% and we drew level with both Labour and the Tories in that ward, polling 1 in 5 of the votes. We beat Labour in four other wards.
  • In 2008 we moved into third place across central St Albans, despite a resurgent Tory vote and malicious campaigning against us by the Lib Dems.
  • In 2009 in the County Council elections we moved into third place across the whole of St Albans, ahead of Labour. Our vote in our target area increased by 47% on the last County Council elections. In the Euro elections on the same day, St Albans saw the fifth highest Green vote out of all 47 districts in the region. The Green vote in the region increased by about 50%.
  • In our region there are eight Principal Authority Councils that have Green Councillors, including Watford, Bedfordshire and Herts County Council.
  • Across the UK the Green Party has 123 Principal Authority Councillors, plus Assembly Members in Scotland, Northern Ireland and London, and two MEPs.
