Green Councillor gives voice to public on Brexit

15 July 2016

St Albans Council was swamped on Wednesday by around 50 members of the public, who wanted to hear the motion of no confidence in local MPs.

It was standing room only for some, as people squeezed into the Council Chamber to hear a debate that was calling for Anne Main and Peter Lilley to stand down, due to their clash of views with the local population, on Brexit.

Many members of the public wanted to speak at the meeting, but they couldn't under the rules. So Green Councillor Simon Grover used his speech to read out some of the many comments people have sent in.

His speech was followed by sustained applause.

The motion was eventually defeated, as the Conservative majority voted solidly against it.
