Greens win backing for Emergency Bill

17 July 2021

St Albans Green councillor Simon Grover has won the backing of St Albans District Council for the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill, which is making its way through Parliament. The Bill is designed to reverse the climate and ecological crisis.

At a debate at Wednesday's Council meeting, Simon presented a motion (see video) for the Council to sign up in support of the Bill and ask local MPs to vote for it. The motion highlighted that the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with 40% of plant and animal species in decline.

The motion was passed, so the Council will be signing up in support of the Bill.
