Greens offer help while Council fails to provide coordinated service

19 September 2022

St Albans Greens have discovered there is no direct way for residents to apply for felled trees in their street to be replaced, or new trees to be planted.

Street trees are hugely valuable yet many are being removed by the Council and not replaced. We have asked for a scheme such as Trees For Streets to be adopted, which allows residents to club together to pay towards the cost.

In the meantime, here are 3 things to try if you want a tree:

1. Ask your County Councillor if they would use some of their county budget to provide one or more trees in your street. writetothem.com

2. Contact the customer service department at the County Council – your request will be forwarded to their trees team for consideration. bit.ly/hertscontact

3. Contact Wilder St Albans, the biodiversity project that local Greens helped to establish, and tell them about your request. They also have a trees group if you are interested in promoting trees more widely. hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/wilderstalbans
