The next local council elections in St Albans are on 2 May 2024.
We are targetting 3 wards where we are likely to win. See below for our target candidates in these wards: Juliet Voisey, Lucy Swift and Damian Gaskin.
See our full list of 21 candidates.
Juliet was first elected to St Peter's ward last year, in a by election. Since then she has helped numerous residents and worked hard at the Council to bring fresh ideas and hold the Lib Dems to account. This has included saving paper-based parking permits, challenging the destruction of trees, backing lower speed limits and helping residents create new green areas on street corners.
Juliet has spoken out against developers who don’t take enough care of our local environment. And she has supported residents and businesses who are working to improve our city.
Juliet sits on the Council's Housing committee and the City Neighbourhoods Committee. She will always put residents first and respond quickly to enquiries.
Lucy is a long-standing volunteer in the community. She’s enthusiastic and determined to help improve St Albans. She is a mum, volunteer and professional garden designer, running her own business in St Albans.
With Cllr Matt Fisher, Lucy has been knocking on doors right across the ward. If you’ve met Lucy in the last few weeks you’ll have seen how approachable she is, and how committed to the people and environment of our city.
Lucy will help Matt do even more for you and the city, and enable us to hold the Council to account. We’ve seen the need for that recently with some decisions that have angered residents.
Damian lives, works and brings up his family in New Greens in Batchwood ward. His daughter inspired him to start litter-picking, and he now coordinates a weekly session in the ward, which after a year of operation has gathered 350 bags of litter. He plans to replicate this across the ward. He also began 'Monday Suppers' at Christ Church in High Oaks, 18 months ago. This brings together people from all backgrounds for a delicious meal.
Damian has raised over £5,000 for the Emmaus charity in St Albans, taking part in St Albans ‘Sleepout’ for 10 years in a row.
You have two votes in Batchwood this year. You can vote for both Green candidates, Damian Gaskin and Matthew Thomas. But if you only use one vote for the Greens, please vote for Damian as our first choice candidate.
On the same day are the Police & Crime Commissioner elections. The Hertfordshire Green candidate is Cllr Matt Fisher. Read about his candidacy.
There are already over 700 Green councillors in England: motivated, passionate people who are achieving great things for their towns and cities. Vote Green in local elections to get more hard-working Greens elected.

We target our campaigns on specific areas, to make it more likely that we'll get councillors elected rather than achieving no more than a general increase in our vote share. In our current target areas - St Peter's ward and Clarence ward in St Albans, we win. We have 3 councillors in those wards: Simon, Matt and Juliet.
But even if you don't live in our target wards, voting for a Green candidate gives you a chance to send a message that you like our policies, campaigns and ideas. Every Green vote increases our media coverage and campaigning power.
